To be perfectly honest There is not enough street lights all over in Florida. My heart goes out to the Family and friends of the victims. Ms. Nelson I have to say you have the heart of gold letting the driver off. At least he did do the right thing and stopped instead of leaving the scene. I know that does not bring your child back, but he is better off now. God wanted your son more than you did. I am not being ugly. I have to say that to myself everyday for the rest of my life as well since my child is no longer here either. I am so sorry to hear about this terrible situtation. No one wants to hit someone on a bike or walking...help us out by making yourself more visable. Too many times I have not seen a person on a bike or walking until I was just feet away from them. My bike has lights and refectors. If I walk at night I carry a flashlight and wear an orange hunting vest. OK, so I look funny, at least drivers can see me! There have been too many pedestrian fatalities lately, particularly on U.S. 98. Just one more reason why establishing public transportation in Gulf Breeze and Navarre would be an excellent idea. Some people have no choice but to walk where they need to go. While it's true that they should also watch out for their own safety, sometimes that is just not enough. That said, I'm glad to have read (elsewhere) that Santa Rosa County is expanding some of the pedestrian walkways on Highway 98. If I never see another article like this, it's too soon. When i hear about this accident i felt terribly sorry. I pray for the family and hope they have all of the comfort they need.
