to 429SCJ – I agree! I think texting is going backwards to the days of the telegraph system! Actually talking to a person is far more satisfying than reading a text from them. Texting does have some use – texting a number or address to someone for example, or letting someone know of an important event when it’s not possible for you to talk. Have you seen the lastest cell phone commercials? One would thing the entire population of the United States walks around texting or looking at their cell phones.

I tried texting on a friends phone once and experienced nothing. There was no pleasurable sensation or rush, nothing! I am totally clueless as to why texting is more pleasurable than verbal communication. I wish someone could enlighten me to the advantages and benefits of texting. What drives the brain to text? The hearing impared could benefit I am sure, but what of all these others?

I feel like circling the house texting til I run over a few law makers..It’s only a $166. dollar fine. People are dying from this and nothin is being done about it. They might as well make D.U.I.’s legal..

I am shocked that this bill did not pass..I have two teenagers who are very responsible about this however I have caught them looking down to just see who a text is from & that is a distraction in itself. I feel that if you appear under the age of 25 & are seen holding a phone, it should be cause to be pulled over & be given a ticket if your phone show a text that was just sent by the driver.

cierra i do agree with you 100% and yes there are laws and statutes governing distracted driving and texting would be included with that. I really hope to see more statues enforced.

The headline is a bit misleading. Texting while driving is NOT legal. There are already statutes that prohibit distracted driving. Why don’t we start enforcing the statutes we already have rather than create new ones? A texting-while-driving ban is simply a political ploy to win favor in an election year, or a revenue enhancer.

I am shocked that this money grabbing bill didn’t get passed. I figured the government would have jumped all over this thing. I’m really glad they didn’t. I posted this while driving down 29 and didn’t hit anyone. Shocking.

Its really a shame that our forefathers enacted laws that are supposed toprotect us as citizens. Nut todays congress and legislation are only interested in laws that return profits. Unfortunately our government has no care to us. Passing this bill would have helped keep people safe. So this goes to show were the priority is in our government and i think we as tax payers need to speak out and change this law

Well it is time voters to move Mr. Brad Drake out of the way to try and put some kind of law in that will protect the the rest of the people whom drive the roads. You see it every day, back and fourth on the roads, going into on coming traffic. I do not care if the idiots kill each other, it is my family that i care about.

Great, now we have to deal with people who are too busy with their cell phones to pay attention to their driving. Anything that takes your attenion off the road while driving is a hazard to you and other drivers.
