I live off Hwy 97 as well and travel it multiple times per week. There are only rare occasions that I see people speeding. More often than not, I see the exact opposite of that. There are white signs that say “Speed Limit 55″ all up and down that road and what that means is that it is perfectly legal to put your speedometer’s needle on 55 and drive. Every single time without fail I get behind someone who decides it is best to go 40-45mph from Ernest Ward all the way to Hwy 29. Sure, there are places to pass, but it is impossible to get around 10 cars who are all doing the same thing; hence the reason you have people passing so many cars at one time. You people who say everyone flies down that road, do me a favor; next time, look in your rear-view mirror. If you are the lead car and there is a line of cars behind you, YOU are more than likely a huge part of the reason people do these crazy things.

429SCJ….cool car if you own one……sorry i digress…..speed limit of 45 mph…..hmmmm doubt that will work…..it is already 55, and people do not pay attention to that. If we read the story it says something about the mini spare on the car…..before we decrease the speed, why not set up a fund to assist in repairing the regular tires…….

I live off of 97 and the drivers are horrible, always in a hurry, passing on the double yellow line, passing 6 or 7 cars at a time and scaring the hell out of oncoming traffic we have to ease to the shoulder to avoid headon collisions and this happens DAILY! I am sorry to say most of the cars doing this have alabama tags. They will pass when approaching the flashing light at 29 why? You have to stop anyways, oh yea, no one stops they just slow down. Put a mass of troopers on it for a few weeks and see the change.

I just missed it happening by a few minutes,, it was a nice day the roads were clear and it was a straight shot,,,,, Hope they were not texting or using the phone there is so much of that going on.. I have been guilty myself of checking the phone,,, till my neck hairs stand up when I here thud thud thud on the side of the road..I turn it off while driving as it does have an ON button.

45MPH is plenty fast enought for 97. The hwp should download data from the car’s computer. If the data shows excessive speed, TICKET. Telemetry technology would be a good tool in the investigation of auto crashs.

You want to stop the accidents- put speed bumps in every 1/4 mile. Then everybody will slow down or find another route!!!

SPEED is the reason for most of the wrecks on Hwy. 97. People think it is a race track and treat it accordingly. I drive this road often and have to contend with speeding, following too close, using the phone, cutting back too close in front of me and plain just not paying attention. Please watch out for the other people on this road as they are not watching out for you.
