Why does a town have a website? Most likely the same reason anybody has a website.

People considering having any dealings with Century could go there for information. I see there is a place to make payments, so I assume electronic payments are in the works; that would free up clerical time and allow payments 24 hours per day without postage and driving expenses.

It appears set to notify the curious of available services and how to reach them. That comes in handy for newcomers, a welcome addition. Conversely, if folks get frustrated trying to deal with anyone or anything, they often just walk away from them. Making Century even more reachable than it already is should make some folks happy rather than frustrated.

Some of the services offered via website might save enough money elsewhere to pay for the website. For an analogy, consider how an ATM can do the work of a person and is available at all hours for the convenience of the user and cost savings of the bank or credit union while being less likely to be killed in a robbery.

Even if the site mentions places and services not located within the town limits, they would be things useful to those in Century.

The new web site is a positive thing. Century has no where to go but up.
This a typical municpal web site.
Give them a vote of confidence once in a while rather than complaining all the time.

Farming is know in JAY not Century .I hope you place photos that represent Century Florida not what JAY is about. Working hard on rebuilding Century I am sure you can find photo to show this? Again, like the story says, the pictures and text are just there to fill up space. The idea behind these screenshots is to show what the design will look like, not to show the content.

From the story: “The preview is meant to show the basic layout of the site, with photos and wording to be updated before it goes live on the web.”

The photos are just “placeholders” — photos stuck in the page as examples until they add the real photos.

As far as Byrneville Elementary goes — they are a member of the Century Chamber of Commerce. The page you are seeing above is the chamber membership page.

From what I can see, the website looks nice, but what do those pictures have to do with Century? I can’t think of a single parcel of land that huge that is currently being used for farming within the city limits of Century. I understand the picture of Byrneville Elementary School is for preview purposes only, but even if they post an accurate picture, Byrneville Elementary School is in BYRNEVILLE, which again, is not within the city limits of Century. I guess they’re referring to Century as everything within the Century zip code?

Dear Whoever at Town of Century:

It’s a sin to use a picture of a tractor around here unless it is a John Deere. (Those are the pretty green ones!)

Seriously, this looks good for Century. Good to see progress.
