I borrowed one from a friend during the last hurricane/power-outage. When it didn't come on, I took it apart to find a burnt-up 6 amp switch controlling a 13 amp power connection (it had the usual 1500 W power consumption). It was sold under the Sunbeam name, but who knows what Chinese outfit actually designed and built it. If you must use a space heater, avoid the cheap little plastic ones.

I completely agree with you! Perhaps I missed it, but I don't think I ever saw anything about these recalls on the news or in the newspapers. Thank you, William, for giving us this information. Hopefully everyone with any portable heaters in their homes will check and make sure theirs isn't on the recall list.

Wow, thanks for this article William. I don't use them much, but I found three that were on the list. Two Honeywells and a Aloha Breeze here at our house. After being on the phone for about an hour with the companies, I found out where to take them. Scary, scary.

Every year, hundreds if not thousands of portable heaters are recalled for like malfunctions. I thought UL tested these units and deemed them safe. I dont understand how these types of issues can be overlooked at this rate. Seems the manufacturers continue to use cheap chinese parts to help boost profit.

JUST RANTING!
