REGARDING:
"Heaven help us when coal and nat gas prices bounce up from some of their lowest prices ever"

If they build nuclear, fuel prices won't be much of a factor. "The average fuel cost at a nuclear power plant in 2010 was 0.65 cents / kWh. " (per www.nei.org/resourcesandstats/nuclear_statistics/costs/)

About two thirds of a penny per kilowatt-hour of energy.

Heaven help us when coal and nat gas prices bounce up from some of their lowest prices ever. My fear is that any small increase in the price of these inputs will double our bills quickly because my bill has risen even in the face of these input costs bottoming out and staying there and even going lower. It is not going to be pretty when they reverse course and start going back up. The poor mouthing for rate increases by Gulf Power will probably be more than I can take I am afraid.

Why are all you folks so upset with gulf power. All they do is provide affordable energy. For all those who want it "cleaner", it costs money. So don't blame gulf power, they try to keep the costs down. Personally, I like my electricity. In the whole scheme of things, I think the cost is pretty reasonable. It is kinda like the grocery store, we all can see that things have increased in price. What do you do, cut back. If its a short week, or short month we'll be eating chicken and rice. You have to manage your electricity just like you do anything else. I feel like I have control because the less I use the less I pay, the more I use the more I pay. Simple! Merry Christmas
