It is nice that folks still take the time to remember and honor veterans. I always enjoy see old friends and fellow veterans at the programs. I am always proud to attend and represent the veteran organizations and my fellow veterans! This community is very rich in military heritage and that is one of the many things I love about it. There will be a program that will inclue Perdido's band and chorus, ECHS JROTC, Guest speaker, Major Gaston Jones, followed by a reception. A special presentation will be made to the family of Lance Cpl Bruce Ferrell who was killed in Afghanistan on August 10, 2009. Bruce was a former Perdido student and graduated from BCHS in 2009. The family will be presented a flag flown over the US Capital in Bruce's memory, by A;abama Representative Alan Baker. A letter from Former President George H. Bush, youngest Naval Aviator in WWII, thanking Perdido for their on-going work to recognize those who have served will also be shared with those in attendance. Wish I was able to attend, especially the dedication ceremony of LCpL Travis Nelson Park. It would be an extreme honor to shake Mr. and Mrs. Nelson's hands. I pray the community comes out and supports these upcoming events. If you haven't attended a Veteran's Day Program in the past, you should definitely make an effort to attend one, if not all of these. I've had the extreme pleasure of attending and honor of being a part of a few Veteran's Day Programs at Northview High and Ernest Ward Middle Schools.
