Their total expense is a small fraction of the total expenditure. If they all worked for free, it wouldn’t help all that much and would make them more tempted to earn money by taking bribes (which, of course, they never do currently).

Teachers, instructors and professors at least attempt to prepare an individual for entry into the workforce. Coaches have unbelievable salaries and endorsement deals use up their players and send them out into the real world of work woefully unprepared for the reality of getting, having and keeping a job.
