Keep your'e filters changed and don't use the cheap fiberglass angel hair ones either. They let too much dust past the air handler, and it cakes up on the heater coils and in the duct work. Fire up the heat, after running the A/C all summer and it just burns off most of the time. Thus the "Smell" you get.
It is the accumulated burning dust you smell. But if there is enough build up, it can catch the whole system on fire.

Buy the good "pleated" filters. Cost twice as much as the cheap ones, but last three times as long. House is cleaner because of less dust, and you won't have this problem. "Spend a little more, and save a lot"!

Very good advice Oversight

I hope the home owner is not one of the people out of job and just
has an old system they can't afford to replace. Good luck folks and
best wishes for the upcoming holidays this year.

This article should be a wake-up call for folks because furnaces need to be professionally checked before using them following a long period of inactivity. And don't forget to change the batteries your smoke detectors; it's that time of year again!
