My heart goes out to the Nelson family. I was one of the many supporters that came out the day of the funeral in support of our brave solider and his family. My son was wounded in Afganistan July was a year ago and I stood there thinking that that could have been me and my family. There are no words that can express the feelings in my heart that I have for the Nelson family and all the familes that have fallen soliders. Take care and God be with you in this most trying time.

Atmore and surrounding areas did an outstanding job of showing our respect to LCPL Nelson Friday. City workers had every sprig of unwanted grass trimmed; debris picked-up, working all week to have our town in tip-top shape for this important event. Mayor Shell urged all departments to go over and beyond their normal cleaning and also wanted all citizens that could do be out to show their respect to this wonderful young man that gave his life so our life would be safe. The wonderful motorcycle brigade added a lot to the procession and all the children present with their flags in attendance will never forget this procession of respect. I pray for the family they will find peace with their memories of their brave young son.

Patriot guards, what can I say or do to thank you for your support. We will never forget the honor you gave our son and our family

To the community of NWFl and S Al. Words cannot express how we felt during the funeral of our Marine son, Travis. The support of the community has been remarkable to say the least. You have shown that Americans still have a heart and Patriotism for the Country and her people. Travis would have been proud to know he
gave his life and the
people come togeather
as they did to show their
respect. Its nice to know
that we haven't given up
on what our country was
founded on, God, love,
patriotism, honor,
respect and the old
fashion, neighbor. I will
learn from my Son and
this community and strive
to be a better American
and neighbor. Travis, you
will always be your
beautiful Moms and my
HERO. We will miss you
to the point we cannot
describe but will join
you, pawpaw, papa and the other heros in Heaven. My prayers go
out to the rest of the Troops, its time we bring these men and women HOME. God Bless America

Each time I read LCpL Nelson's stories, my heart is filled with sadness. Sadness for the loss the Nelson family has suffered. My prayers go out to Mr and Mrs. Nelson, their children, and young Travis' fiancee.

I am also filled with a sense of Pride after reading Travis' stories as well. I'm so proud of the community I call home. It touches me deeply to see the show of support that Atmore, Walnut Hill, Century, McDavid, Molino, and all the surrounding citiess have shown for the Nelson family. I pray that their support will give them a little comfort in their time of need. God Bless you all.

My heart goes out to this family, it is hard to understand the true feeling what they are feeling unless you have been there. I lost my brother in 1993 he was in the Army and his helicopter went down due to something wrong in the motor at Fort Rucker Al I think that was the hardest thing that I have faced in my life. My heart goes out to them cause i KNOW what they are feeling

LCpl Nelson,

You are a man of great honor, courage and valor and you have done something I don't believe I could have done! I just want to Thank You for giving your life for me and helping to protect my freedom! Your family is in my prayers and will be for a while.

Those photos provided were great to see, since I was unable to attend the ceremony. In the first couple of photos, I sat amazed at how things work. LCpl Nelson's casket was still in the church and the Marine Corp flag was not being blown by the wind but as soon as his casket came out of the church the wind started blowing and that sent chills throughout my body. Seeing his fellow Marines saluting him one last time also gave me chills. Thank you for these great pictures!

Thank you for your service Travis! You will never be forgotten throughout our community!

My heart literally breaks for this family...could not sleep last night. What I saw in these photos though, warmed my heart...people of all races joined together to honor this fallen marine...that's the way Atmore should be...

When I grow up... I want to be a Patriot Guard Rider... on a three wheeler, of course.
They were awesome. Many of the comments were about what an honor and blessing it was to know this family, and support them during this time. Please know that all of you are in our prayers and thoughts. RIP LCpl Travis Nelson.
