I would like to thank northescambia.com for honoring not only drake’s wishes but his mom’s and dad’s too. To me an obituary from a mother and father should be published exactly the way it’s written because they knew their son/daughter like no one else did. Drake would have been the first to tell you that Jenifer Dykes is suppose to be listed right beside his mother’s name. He loved her as if she was his own mother. I should know because I’m his mother and he got to spend his last couple of months with us and he would rather her do things for him than me. She made him happy, babying him, spoiling him and taking up for him when I was doing my motherly duties. Tri-city would not publish his obituary the way we all wanted it. They included his dad’s girlfriend, all of Drake’s extended family from Genia’s side even Jenifer’s side which is what me and his dad wanted but would not acknowledge Jenifer at all because it’s against their policy so they say. They told me no girlfriends/boyfriends/significant others couldn’t be named, but they did. Then there excuse for that was well that’s how we got it from the the funeral home well if they had gotten that way that’s what they should have published. Obituaries in my eyes are wrote up the way the deceased and their family wants it and it shouldn’t be a policy saying they can’t do it that way.

I was honored to have known Drake while I volunteered and worked and FES. He was a very sweet, bright young man w/a smile that could melt your heart!!! He will always hold a special place in my heart!
