Interesting that there were no charges. Lights and siren are for asking civilian traffic to yield the right of way. Failure to yield the right of way can get you a ticket but from what I am reading in the article the deputy did not use due caution when driving against the flow of traffic.

>>But what is confusing about this article is how someone drives southbound on U.S. 90.

Hwy 90 (aka Mobile Hwy in that area) is an east-west roadway. It is, however, literally north-south at Saufley Field Road. The trooper chose to use the literal north-south in the report.

Thankfully no one was seriously injured.

But what is confusing about this article is how someone drives southbound on U.S. 90. In our country's highway numbering system, even numbered roads are east-west routes like State Road 4, U.S. 90, and Interstate 10, and odd numbered roads are north-south routes like County Road 99, State Road 97, and U.S. 29. I would expect that the highway patrol would know this and would use the correct direction of travel in its news releases. By the way, at which intersection did the crash occur?
