I’m not suggesting anyone commit suicide, however, if you have your heart set on suicide and murder, please start with the suicide portion and skip the murdering portion until after you‘re dead.

Also, if you know someone who tends to be violent, please consider not getting tied up with that person lest you be on the receiving end of the violence. If you choose to ignore that advice, please don’t blame others when you and your friends and children are beat up and/or killed by your new soul-mate.

This is a horrible crime and it conjures up a great deal of emotion for me because my family experienced a very similar incident in another part of Pensacola (years ago)- difference being after being found inside the strangers’ home with the body of my family member, the culprit was arrested and was sentenced very lightly (it is speculated that his being a former vietnam vet who returned home troubled weighed heavily on the judge who sentenced him).

In fact, he later challenged his deceased exwife’s sister, who had been the only “mother” to the minor child that he left motherless, for custody… Unbelievably, upon release, his rights to raise his child (after killing her mom) trumped the rights of a maternal blood relative and most logical choice. This was insult to injury on a level that is still hard to fathom.

There were some disturbing signs presented by the assailant in my family’s case before the day of the murder. Unfortunately, the victim never believed that she would pay the ultimate price and she never should have. At this point, I try to teach young women to trust their instincts and not to attempt to stay in relationships that are not healthy. The rate of fatalities of this sort is relatively high in Escambia County and that has to be addressed. We need to concentrate efforts on teaching women and men to value themselves and not allow others to devalue them. We need to interrupt the cycle of abuse and domestic violence in homes to better ensure that those who minors and observers do not grow up to continue to display the unwanted behaviors.
