I am an ex cop and i do believe children 18 or younger should be required to wear a seat belt. I do kind of think this is a dumb law for people 18 and up. I believe it is a choice you are old enough to make on your own. Just saying

My seat belt ticket was $10.00 last year. Paid it before it was due-in Alabama. Last ticket for me.

Only a fool would operate a vehicle unbuckled! Mike when you go out through the pines or collide with another vehicle you will be glad you were buckled in. I would guess the fines are helping keep those Crown Vickis rolling! Keep up the good work FHP.

Law enforcement and/or its agency doesn’t get any money from tickets. The Department of Public Safety gets $10 of the $31 fine from a seat belt ticket but that is the only money that is collected. The reason that tickets are so high in AL is because the local district attorney’s have figured out a way to add additional “court cost” to tickets….and they make a lot of money off of it. The people of a county also vote at times to increase court cost on tickets to fund certian local projects such as building a new jail. This isn’t right but it is done.

And Mike, its not harassment when people are braking the law…..its called the officers duty and oath to take action. Fortunately, if you live in Escambia, AL you probably won’t have to worry about getting “harassed” because the Sheriff and his department are pretty much useless.

I would have thought that the fines from the tickets would surely pay the officer salary. At a hundred plus dollars for each ticket and maybe eight or more ticketsa wrote each day it seems the state would be making a profit

So the state is flat broke, and in their infinite wisdom, they use this money to further harass citizens. What is the tipping point? How much more abuse are we going to take?
