We have been in direct contact with friends of ours who are workers with the Tuscaloosa Fire Department and School System and in Surrounding Communities that have been directly affected by the recent tornados. The churches in the areas have become full shelters and there are specific requests for personal hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorant, feminine products, undergarments (mens, childrens, and womens), baby wipes, baby food, and ready to feed baby formula, Can Openers, Batteries, flash lights, and moist wipes.

In addition, due to vehicle destruction, they are requesting donations to purchase community bus transportation cards to assist citizens needs to get to doctors appointments, grocery stores, etc. Bottled water is a requirement as the public water system lines have been compromised. They are not needing clothes- only under garments.

If you are interested in helping in this effort to provide assistance, you may drop off items and donations to:

North End of Santa Rosa County:
Jay First Baptist Church: 14113 Alabama St., Jay, FL 32565 9am-4pm
(850) 675-4587
Xtreme Graphix: 3890 Highway 4 (At the Red Light in Jay) 9am-5pm
(850)572-9292

South End of Santa Rosa County:
Cotton Real Estate: 4545 Chumuckla Highway, Pace, FL 32571 (850) 994-8080

or large collections of items can be picked up from your location. Your charitable monetary donations need to be made out to Jay First Baptist Church and designate: Disaster Relief. Please call us to let us know you need pick up from your location by Thursday at 12:00. All collections will be delivered to the disaster area on Friday, May 6th. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Julie & Steven Newberry
Xtreme Graphix LLC- Jay, FL

***Also:
The following items are needed for students to return back to school in the Tuscaloosa County School System. There is not a designated date of return, though they are asking teachers back on Monday, May 2nd to begin reorganization of an upcoming opportunity to return children to some sort of normalcy. Three schools were completely demolished and they have set up 6 additional schools to take the overflow.

FOR STUDENTS:
Clear or mesh backpacks, Notebook paper, Scissors, Rulers, Pencils, Pens, Binders, Crayons, Calculators for middle and high school students, Markers, Three-pronged folders, Personal hygiene items

FOR TEACHERS:
Crayons, Highlighters, Markers, Safety scissors, Construction paper, 20 lb. white copy paper

Thank you!

Hope some of this gets to SAND MOUNTAIN, Alabama. A friend we know who was working in Illinois lost his home, car.and shed. His wife had went to a safe place. Their neighbor lost her life. In New Athens many people lost their homes. A trailer park that had many nice homes were lost. At one time there were over 100 homes in this park. It was destroyed back in the seventies. This park has a under ground shelter A family near this area lost 5 in one family. These small towns are located just before you get into the Huntsville area.

>>Does anyone know how long and what time Aldersgate will accept donations?

I believe it will be an ongoing effort for a while. I don't know the exact hours, but their church office is open in the mornings. If it's closed, you could leave items outside the office

Thank you so much for the help you are sending up here. Canned meals, canned meats, can openers. Money is a great way for the workers (or walmart gift cards, as most are up on generators now) to go buy propane tanks and supplies everyone forgets. We have infants in need....diapers, baby food/cereals and diapers of all sizes. It doesn't matter which community you send it to, these are the things the local radio keeps wanting to send. I think you can stream the radio station for here to listen for yourself. Google 92.7 fun radio Arab alabama and they are opperating in emergency mode, no commercials or music. They are the most informative I have found. Although my home was spared, I appreciate my home place pulling together!!!
