It doesn’t matter unless they can convince a jury. There was a case a few years back in which a murderer left his footprints in the blood while wearing his Bruno something or other shoes. The prosecution couldn’t make the case enough to convince the jury and he walked. (he lost in civil trial afterward, though–better lawyers)

I thought the way it worked was that law enforcement was supposed to prove their case with enough evidence to support the charges before a persons freedom is taken away. If we pay close attention we’ll see that the police are typically lazy and don’t do a competent investigation. They just arrest and let the lawyers sort it out, which is wrong. So now the guy that really stabbed someone is still out there.

We should be holding our law enforcement people more responsible for their actions, otherwise any one of us could be the next arrest of convenience, and have our lives turned upside down by lazy police work.

You’d have to prove they knew he was the wrong person. It’s a lot easier to cast doubts on whether or not he was the right person.

(I’ve heard of people saying things like that about guns, dope, stolen money after acquittals. Not accusing anyone, don’e know a thing about the case, avoid such places.)
