If professionals don't need unions what is the AMA? Every profession has it's version of a union. They all have lobbyists that work to protect their interests.

Many corporations have actual government agencies working on their behalf, like the U.S. Department of Agriculture creation called Dairy Management which is behind the increase in sales of popular pizza chains like Domino's. They came up with a marketing campaign and recipe to sell more pizza. That's the government for you.

But no, you want to blame teachers for the conditions they have to work in. I'll bet you blame the garbage collector when your garbage can stinks. I'll bet you blame the phone company when you run your phone bill up too high. I'll bet you blame the cashier at the store when an item costs too much.

Every professional organization has representation of some kind. Every corporation has WAAAAAAAAY more representation than any working person, white or blue collar.

What you don't understand is this is a corporate issue, not an education issue. If the politicians were representing us our schools wouldn't have the problems they do. If the unions were powerful our schools wouldn't have the problems they do.

What is being attempted is a grab at all of the public tax money by corporate interests. Their representatives, which include politicians, have nothing to gain by improving education in it's current form. They aren't getting enough money out of it. If you think education is going to be better under corporate management then you are at best naive. All they care about is getting regulations changed to favor themselves, getting the government money before you do, and making a profit every quarter.

Think about it.

To Old Soldier:

Sir, I take my hat off to you. Great point. My grandmother was teaching when the school systems were undergoing integration. She stayed with it for a couple of years, but the principal had to be tough as a prison warden and dealt more with dicipline than education. It's worse today than it was then ,because those problem children then have given birth to a new generation of delinquents and these have been raised to believe that hurting and sucking off of others is the way the game is played and they have arrived with their filth as well. At this point in time in S.Escambia County, it is absolutly true that the schools are not fit for occupancy by decent children who have been raised to respect elders and work hard. So, if I want my kids educated in a safe environement, they will have to go to a private school and I will pay $400.oo a month on top of the tax dollars I pay for the dangerous place they would attend in it's place. Nice huh?

"A Florida Education Association spokesman said the teachers’ union has generally been in favor of charters in theory, but that it would not favor a system where per student funding left a school district to follow the student to a charter school."

Why should there be an objection to the funding following the student?

To reward the shoddy system that the student's family have lost faith in?

The tax payers are still on the hook, and now the child - rescued from a failing institution - is in the sad condition of paying effectively double for the education that should have been provided in the first place. Tax payers shouldn't have to pay twice for a product, in this case an educated citizen, and shouldn't pay anything for a defective product from a defective system.

It's this simple.

Professionals do not require Unions, Trades do, and that's the history of it - it's time to figure out if teaching is truly a profession or just another trade - and if a trade, then it's time to take a serious look at what each tax dollar is buying, and start looking for quality tradesmen.

My father spent a lifetime teaching, and is disgusted with the "education associations" aka teacher's unions, to this day. Unions for people in the employment of government, should be illegal. Same for unions whose members claim to be "professionals". FEA = Liberal Hogwash and Malarky.
