OK- there are 20 routes for garbage collection and 10 routes recycling. When we started the recycling program, we had 4 routes and that has steadily grown. As the program grows, we adjust and shift routes because more people are added tot he routes. When they become too full, we add routes and adjust the garbage routesa and resources over to recycling. This is for the whole service area, not just the north end. Several routes serve parts of the northern area and central county. Another factor that plays into the time of the route is how fast the truck fills up (again due to how many cans are placed out) and have to go to get emptied out before getting back on the route.

Northender,
Certainly, we understand that this is an adjustment, somewhat inconvenient and that the more precise we could be about the times, the better. Believe me, if we could, we would. This is the first week, and as in the past, things will settle out in the next few weeks and the new "routine" time will emerge. Please bear with us as we make these adjustments in order to serve all our customers more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Ms Bowers - " very early in the morning" for a lot of northenders is daily 3-5 am. We don't mind putting our cans out that early ( because we're already up) but it sure would be nice if we had use of our trash cans before it gets dark again on trash day. Up here , the curb is not right outside our door. More people who are customers will put their cans out for pickup if they know the trash is getting picked up in a somewhat regular manner timeframe wise. This , according to you, will make our pickup time later. It's three in the afternoon now, so maybe your route driver has had time to make it waaay up here to the north end of the county.

The trucks start their routes very early in the mornnig and work until everything is collected. Sometimes, the routes are completed by early afternoon, sometimes it is much later. Pick-up times will always vary based on the amount of cans that are out for collection and this changes from week-to-week.

I have asked our Sanitation Department how many of the routes serve the northend, and will post that information as soon as I have it.

Jennifer,
It is perfectly OK to put your can out the night before.

Well my cans were out well before 5:30 a.m. and there's still no sign of a trash truck at 11:30 a.m. So getting the cans out there was a waste of time. By the way, ECUA still hasn't answered the question: How many northend routes are there and where do the routes start and end? This information would be helpful in knowing when to expect pick-up.
