Ok well I see your blinded because of this so called "Major Public Safety Issue of a Gas Leak". If you would read that article it says they are applying for a low interest load to solve that problem, which in my opinion, must not be to major or the public service commision and/or state of Florida would not give them until the end of the year to repair. But applying for that loan isnt going to happen in a weeks time, probably not even a months time. And while you are reading that article read this one where it says American Red Cross will provide training for EACH device.

The AED program was made available in 2003 for schools and public service. That was 8 years ago "justme". Since obviously I don't understand what a grant is or what the use of a AED is then maybe you know why Century is just now 8 yrs later attempting to apply for a grant to receive these devices? And are they going to train people on how to use them? Probably not. My point is they get in no hurry to do anything, just like the gas leak which I haven't heard any update now so that makes it 2 or 3 weeks now it has been going on that they where aware of. I've personally seen what a gas leak does to a neighborhood. It doesn't exist anymore. Yes AED's save lives and would be good for this area. Everyone knows grants arent actual cash. The towns priorities aren't always in order.

I say this is Good...The people here that are in disagreement obviously either does not know the increased survival rate a quick AED response for Ventricular Fibrillation can be or they have never had a loved one, co-worker, or congregation member which went into VF (Cardiac Arrest). A grant is not money taken from Century, it is nothing that is in more priority over the "Gas Leak". It is taken advantage of an opportunity to better serve our community with these devices which when applied within 3-5 minutes of sudden cardiac arrest, and accompanied by CPR, can increase the survival rate greater than 50%. I say try to get one in every single public building, schools, churches, restaurants, and as many other places the public congregate. Good Luck Century!

I see a small, perhaps insignificant problem here... If they apply for the grant using the fire department they will probably be denied as it is not longer a "small department". Over two years ago all of the fire stations in the county unified into one department, so it is now part of a 500+ employee fire service encompassing 19 stations!

I am all for getting AEDs in public places, but I am a bit iffy on whether or not they could qualify for this type of grant.

I'm not saying use that money for other things. The emergency in century right now is the gas leak not AED's.

RTFA, people!

It says they are applying for a GRANT which buys these things. It's a grant that is strictly used for buying cool emergency gear for small departments. IT WILL BE FREE FOR CENTURY.

I don't think the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services would look too kindly at Century for using the money for other purposes.

>>( RTFA - Read The Freakin' Article )

This sounds good on the surface, but just how many AED's will $300k buy? More than 100 would be my guess at $3,000 each. They are inexpensive compared to what they used to be and AED's can be purchased for as little as 1k. Maybe some additional research should be done into this to make sure that the money is really spent how it is intended because I don't see a need for some 300 plus AED's in Century.
