Exactly. If they exist at all, those who are addicted to them will do whatever they have to do to get them. If they have to kill to get them, some will kill. If all they have to do is pay ten dollars at Wal-Mart to get them, they will pay the ten dollars and won’t need to lie, rob or kill to get them.

In all likelihood, the drugs would still kill them eventually, but they wouldn’t be hurting others to get them. They wouldn’t make money selling the drugs to others because those others could get them themselves. They wouldn’t rob to get the pocket change to buy the drugs because they would be cheaper. They wouldn’t make money off getting others addicted. They wouldn’t kill others in drug deals gone bad. Very likely THEY would die eventually as they currently do with prohibition, but they wouldn’t be hurting OTHERS.

What about wrecks caused by driving under the influence? Enforce THOSE laws because they endanger others. It would be easier to do since they wouldn’t have to drive around late at night trying to score drugs. There would be less associated criminal activity.

If you can, separate in your mind the harm done by the drugs to those who will use them regardless of laws and the harm done by the laws themselves to others.

As long as a drug has an addiction and dependence nature to them you will have those that will lie, rob and even kill to get them.

Yes drugs hurt the user. It is their illegality which so often make them hurt others. For all we know this fellow may have been scared to call the police as the other lay dying because he knew his illegal drugs would be found. Quite possibly the illegal purchase of illegal drugs caused the harm in the first place.

Thus, he was involved in drugs despite their illegality so the law didn’t stop him from using but may have led to the death of the other. We know it often leads to the deaths of others. Consider that most gang wars are over turf for sale of illegal drugs. If they were not illegal in the first place, gangs would dry up because they couldn’t compete with Wal-Mart.
