Yet I have returned to Food World after realizing I left food in my basket, asked the workers there about it and they pointed to where it was awaiting my return. There are SOME honest people in this world.

agreed! there are times and places to use a cell phone at work. however stocking shelves in a convenience store is unlikely one of those times. can’t imagine calling someones cell phone to place a sandwich order but i guess if you get the friend discount… more power to ya.

To Girl in Green;I would never take a purse found or wallet or anything else that could be returned by identification in it.I was happy to turn the purse in and hope the lady in Brewton got her purse back.Money on the street,food left in baskets,clothes along the road…It is finders keepers to me since the owner cannot be identified.I found a baby album sonetime back and went through extrodenary efforts to find the owner. There are times and places in which cell phones may be part of the work. For example, Number 2 Son takes orders at Subway on Creighton via cell phone or internet. Sometime you need to use them to call the law. Regardless, that is between the employee and the owner.

its good work ethics to NOT use your phone while at WORK!!! as it is also not good ethics to be surfing the net while ‘on the clock’! (hint hint) but since everyone else on here has plenty of time to chat, why dont we address the real problems with this story. why didnt the man give the phone to the clerk at the counter? or $10,000 bond for petty theft? then we have portable meth-lab operators out on multiple much lower bonds???? what gives???

I’ve found things left in carts a lot of times. They don’t belong to me. I turn them back in to the store. If the one who paid for the item comes back, fine. If not, the store gets to sell the item twice. I don’t get it free.

As for the guy trying to turn the phone in to the sheriff’s department, he did. After a deputy came knocking on his door looking for him. He has been on the run ever since, not because of this particular petty theft, but because he already has a rap sheet a mile long. As for those of you that think it’s no big deal, try working on a convenience store salary and having to replace your cell phone because some crackhead took it.

Some people will always be hypercritical of law enforcement or any other authority – because they have such an inflated idea of their own significance and authority that they’re easily threatened…
