So, Mr. Courtney was first on the scene and he called the accident in, so he should get life saving credit. He is truly a “silent hero”. Though no first aid was rendered until the paramedic arrived on the scene, Mr. Courtney is still a hero! He called 911!!!

Mr. Courtney has always been a “hero” in the eyes of most here in Escambia County AL. I remember a few years ago when Mr. John Lee Johnson “drowned” in the Conecuh River. Mr. Courtney was adamant that a “search and recovery” rather than a “search and rescue” mission was necessary in that case.

Despite indisputable evidence pointing to the fact that Mr. Johnson did NOT drown – his footprints on the bank of the river near the overturned boat, his lunch box hanging from a tree limb where he left it – Mr. Courtney shut down river traffic in both directions and refused to allow anyone near the area… while the river was searched and searched and dragged and dragged by the few that remained under his command.

In the meantime Mr. Johnson was wandering around in the swamp – for nearly a week – lost and waiting for rescue.

Sometimes jealousy and envy overrule good sense, sometimes the jealous/envious person doesn’t have good sense to start with. You decide!

You sadden me. You actually make me angry. How dare you say that the VFD that is celebrating the saving of someones life is a “War of Accolades”. You are pathetic. Maybe you should look at the recent wreck at the intersection of Hwy. 113 and Hwy 31. Could you handle pulling the broken deceased body of a child from the wreckage of a Motor Vehicle Accident? What about his father? It is times like this when someone gets the privelage of winning a battle of saving another persons life that allow us to sleep at night when dealing with the carnage of those accidents and death like mentioned above. You make me sick. Your name should be Pathetic rather than Publicity.

I think it is very sad that fire department volunteer(s) have tried to turn this tragedy into a “war for accolades”. I’m sure there are many more silent heroes at the scene of this accident.

Howington’s daughter, Cathy Green said, “To ALL those that assisted with the accident, thank you for saving my momma’s life.” Notice “ALL” in this quotation.

I appreciate all of our volunteer firemen and their selfless efforts to help those of us who might find ourselves in danger. However, I pray that they volunteer solely on the basis of saving lives and not for gaining publicity.

Mr. Woodrow courtney and myself pulled up on this wreck on my way home from work seconds after it happened he is with friendship fire department he was the first one on scene and he was the one to call it in to flomatons fire department and at that time flomatons dispatcher said no one had reported a wreck just trying to give credit where its due to the right person

I am a volunteer fire department, and a member of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department notified the Flomaton P.D. and imedietly got help 10-84 to the scene.

My prayers go out to her family during this time.. however & I am very thankful that she was able to have time with her family for a couple more weeks. So many people don’t get that opportunity.. but everything happends for a reason. God doesn’t make mistakes.. maybe He just needed another rose in his garden.
