if you are an ECUA customer you are entitled to put yard debris in 4x4x4 stack and have it picked up curbside on the day your regular trash is picked up. it is my undersanding that leaves must be bagged but you can call ECUA and find out what the regulations are. why burn when it can be picked up free. Of course, this may not work with bigger jobs and then burning may be a necessity and believe me some people are very competent at this and others are not. We have had neighbors burn tires, couches, and mattresses in our neighborhood. I am not adverse to calling the authorities when this happens. If you really know how to do it then -- GO for it -- if not eirther don't do it or take the course. $50.00 is a lot of money and the people that need to take the course will not do it and the people who know how do not need to -- others that insist on illegal burns need to be reported and hopefully fined. We need to respect our neighbors and our environment. But as mentioned above there will always be some that do not and will not. Like Gunner, i also learned Damage Control in the service and it is insulting in this day and time for the Government to try to control every aspect of our lives. This class should be offered free of charge and maybe more people would take advantage of it.

To all of you competent and well informed citizens that have very little time to make comments on subjects that you know so much about. You do not need this certification to burn piles in your yard. It is just an opportunity to educate citizens on burning to a later hour and in dryer conditions safely to protect your innocent neighbors.

50 dollars is a lot of money, if I had an extra 50 dollars I would love to go to that class, because my yard really needs cleaning up and I can not afford to have it picked up and taken to the dump, which all of that cost a lot of money also. Why can't they give this course free or a lot cheaper. I believe that a lot of people would go to the course, if for nothing else in case they need to burn just a small basket of stuff or something small like that instead of taking it all the way to the dump.

I was in the navy and I learned how to handle and control a controled burn, also my fatherinlaw had been burning things in his backyard for years and I quess if he was still alive , he would have more than likely keep doing it unless someone hadn't stopped him. He taught me also and I watched him do it for years and I was doing it until they told me I couldn't do it anymore. Anyway I'll just have to wait for a free course.

I agree... just another way for the government to get their hands on your money. Instead of cutting back on spending (like we the people have to do), they just rob more from us. Our freedoms are slowly being taken away.

Within a year they will stop recognising the certifications and you will just be out $50 and back to the same restrictions as everyone else.
