I'm inclined to agree with "thinker" for once. Ones' faith is a private thing between
him(her) and God. However, when a believer is filled with the Holy Spirit of truth,
he(she) MUST proclaim the wonderful gift they have been given, not earned, of
God and shared with everyone.

People who have never experienced this gift often, for their own reasons, refuse to believe to their own downfall. America, in her hayday, was brought about by
the will and blessing of almighty God. Why? We were a Christian nation who
understood the value of prayer.

2 Cronicles 7: 14 If my people, which are called by my name , shall humble
themselves and PRAY, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Sadly, unbelievers don't realize it is better to keep silent about things they don't
understand and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt.

in response to "Thinker"

I understand where you are coming from with your statement, you are correct in saying that some of the motives for people participating in public prayer may be bad motives, but the power of public prayer, with the right motives, can be a great and wonderful thing. The Lords prayer says "give US this day our daily bread, and forgive US our trespasses..." Jesus himself designed some prayer for the public. Just a thought to consider.

People have been praying for hundreds of years. These same people would say the world just keeps getting worse. Gee, ya think it might be because of too much faith and prayer instead of moral courage and right behavior?

The mind can do wondrous things in a meditative state, but I have serious concerns about the motives of organizers of PUBLIC prayer meetings. Prayer is always best done individually in my view. Religion is, and should be, a relatively private thing.

This is a power grab for what author and neuroscientist,Sam Harris called recently: "faith-based religion -- that great engine of ignorance and bigotry."

Review sometime the rise of Nazi Germany and how the "faithful" just rose up to support Hitler's "prayers" for his country...sheep to the slaughter. Keep religion private and out of the public and political realm. It's very dangerous. America is great because it's founders understood this. Think for yourself.

May God bless all of you who were there. Sorry I missed it. Our country and leaders need our prayers every day. We are gonna see a day when we cant even do that if we dont start standing up for Jesus like he stood up for us.
