As an alumni of ECHS, I am saddened by the state the school is in now. I think that for the past 20 years everyone has blamed someone else, the principal, the teachers, the board, for the downward spiral at ECHS. I think this community must come together as a whole to support this school. Parents must go back to standing behind the teachers and administration. A school is only as strong as its weakest link. I think the weak link maybe the community. People have given up on the schools in Atmore. They think by sending their students to other schools it will be better. Parents start being parents to your children, they have friends their own age. They need to know there are consequences for behavior and they need to be taught responsibility starting in PreK. Teachers be innovative and excited about your job. Administration support your faculty, as well as the students, by being fair and just. Students stop the attitudes and be serious about your future and quit expecting someone to just give it to you because you are here. People put your students, time, and energy back into this system. It can be great! By the way, I am an educator in a Title 1 school where students are learning despite the poverty and social issues, so don’t let that be a crutch either.

he who is without sin, let him/her cast the first stone. not possible. so put your stones in your pocket. as with any professional position, if the head coach , manager, or player is not performing up to expectations, usually in this time and age you are relieved of your duties. anyone who has had contact with either person knows the situation better than all else. fresh start and keep your lies and comments to yourself, unless, you are going to tell on yourself as well. new principal, new coach, get on board and help make the transition a success or keep quiet. got JESUS?

It is quite obvious that the decision to non-renew Means was because they didn’t want to address his potential hire, or for that matter, give him any authority to hire who he thought was best. Once again, the board is a bunch of, Means should have never been hired in the clandestine manner that he was. Conversely, the board is now doing the same with the coaching hire. Atmore gets the shaft again, Brewton is king. Great job school board, you get an F in leadership.

First of all Mr. Means didn’t have the support of some of his faculty members, and Kyle Davis wasn’t doing a good job as coach. Mr. Means tried to turn the school around, but without the necessary support he was bound to be dismissed. The one’s that has so much to say ask yourself do I have control in my classroom, am I making a dfference in a childs life for the good? If you can’t answer yes to these questions then I don’t want you all there when my son come over from the middle school. I am a parent that has discipline at home and I will come to the school if necessary and this is not only for my child, but also to make sure you are doing your job as a teacher.

Carma, you need to get your facts straight, the board did not fire Means because he fired Kyle, they were behind his decision, they fired him because he was no good, and sorry. Also, Kyle Davis is still at the school and is tenured so he can stay as long as he wants, he still has a job, just not coaching. And also, its KARMA…not Carma, you need to get your facts straight and stop making yourself look ignorant!

I encourage the school board to really put some THOUGHT into the next principal hired at ECHS. I just hope it’s not too late to make the necessary changes at the high school in order to better serve the students, community, and the teachers.
