The officers were on probationary status. They violated institutional rules. The violations were documented. If I'm not mistaken, during probationary status, employees can be terminated without cause. End of story.

i AM A OFFICER WHO HAS BEEN EMPLOYED AT CENTURY FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. i AGREE WE DO PUT OUR LIVES ON THE LINE, AND YES RULES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED, BUT THINGS ARE NOT FAIR AT CENTURY NEVER HAS BEEN. I BELIEVE THESE TWO OFFICERS FOUND THEM SELF CAUGHT UP IN RETALIATION DUE TO THE OTHER SITUATIONS THAT ARE GOING ON .I BELIEVE IF THE INMATES CAN GET CORRECTIVE PUNISHMENT THAN SO SHOULD WE. NO THEY SHOULD NOT GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST. BUT THERE IS PUNISHMENTS TO BE UTILISED BEFORE BEING FIRED. BECAUSE WE HAVE A WARDEN, ASSISTANT WARDEN, CAPTAINS AND ALL THEY WAY DOWN THE CHAIN OF COMAIN MAKING MAYJOR MISTAKES, AND ARE STILL EMPLOYED AT CENTURY I BELIEVE THEY WERE A TARGET. BUT i AM A FIRM BELIEVER WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.

As the fiance of a correctional officer..... I sit and wait every night wondering if Im gonna get a call because hes been hurt or killed due to something an inmates freind or family member or WORSE another officer brought in or done!

Some of the things on the lists may sound trivial , but its proven when a human being is "locked up" they find things to do...... and the human is conditioned to be inventive. Its amazing what some of those inmates can come up with......wether it may be something to entertain themselves or worse something to do harm to other inmates or gaurds!

There are somethings that are mistakenly forgotten in ones pocket.......but there are always bad apples in ANY work place and they are gonna break rules either for simple defiant attitude or for monetary gain.

Only problem is in a "work place" such as this...... Rule Breaking can equal someones life!

I have two nephews that work there and they are not allowed guns. These are men that put their lives on the line everytime they go to work. They can't share what they see and hear and have to carry that in their mind even when they are off duty. The language alone can drive a person crazy and I have another nephew that quit there because of the language and things he saw and to this day he has not told me any of it. Another nephew left there and is a guard somewhere else. So they need the rules to be followed because you never know when some inmate might do something stupid.

This is a response to most of the comments made. I am a former employee of the Department of Corrections, I worked there for almost 15 years and retired for medical reasons. The bic lighter is not allowed in the facility not just because it can start fires any lighter will do that and inmates do have lighters (cheap lighters). The mp3 player was affixed to a pair of sunglasses and is also not allowed. As for the remark about the headphones, Inmates have handheld am/fm radios with headphones. They wouldn’t destroy the only thing that lets them hear music, besides dental floss is stronger! These inmates have 24 hrs a day 7 days a week to just think of ways to get away with things. We have to be smarter, more alert and teach the young officers about what information senior officers have come across. Officers are supposed to be alert and you can’t be alert if you’re listening to music, reading a magazine (also not allowed) or congregating in groups gossiping about anything. Officers are bored and not being trained properly. Their training is written by suits in Tallahassee who most have never worked in a facility or even entertained the idea of entering a facility. Rules are being broken all the time either by officers or all the way up the food chain.
Yes sometimes it does seem like a prison but if you’re watchful and alert you can stop some problems with inmates before it begins. And yes wild bill this is a different career choice it’s not for everyone. Some don’t know how to use the power the have as an officer, and some get corrupted by it and wind up loosing their job.

i agree with what they did, as they said, rules are rules and they knew the rules when they started to work there. There are tons of other people waiting for jobs that can follow the rules

Never understood why someone would want to work in a prison in the first place? I mean as a prison employee, you are basically a prisoner yourself while at work. Sure you get to go home at the end of the shift, unlike the actual prisoners, but while at work you are locked up like everyone else. Not trying to offend, just seems like a strange career choice to me.
