In reference to the closing of the Century shelter due to "low utilization" ...it is hard to notify the needy by word of mouth. I know we made phone calls to neighborhood church members, and customers to ask them to pass the word around when we received the notice of the shelter opening late Thurs afternoon.

If the Town of Century would formalize a shelter plan and advertise it via media, and flyers perhaps once people know that it's there then they will use it. There's no doubt the need is there...it's just difficult to get the word to those truly in need.

It's about time a shelter open in our area. There should be an organized plan for shelters in each community,I.e. Walnut Hill, Bratt, Byrneville, and Century.

I noticed in Milton the other day that they open cold weather shelters when temp is 40 degrees and below. There needs to be a plan for shelters in the northend of the county , all the time. People need to know where the shelters are, and when they are open.

Good start...but we need an organized plan!
