I send my child to the doctor when there is a concern about weight or anything else. It is not the schools place to tell me my child is too fat or too skinny, that is what I pay the doctor for. Your child doesn't have to share their information. Bullies will be bullies with or without this report - you need to talk to the administration (and parents with the school as mediators), and if that doesn't work go to the school board. If the bullying is that serious, don't "come close" to pressing charges, do it. Many parents don't notice their little angels may not be healthy - little angel behaves so much better when they get the extra Coke or they dont' have to argue over McDonald's vs a home meal with veggies. What I found ironic was that they were given a 'treat' for bringing the signed report back to school. The "treat" was....you guessed it....candy!! Maybe it should have been a carrot? These Health Report Cards should be used by parents in the same manner Academic Report Cards are used, as a measure of the success each child is acheiving and as a tool to demonstrate where each child needs improvement. If you want your child to stop being picked on because of their weight, take the steps necessary to encourage your child to become more fit and healthy instead of complaining about how they are being treated.
