Most all of you are exactly right, WE all have become more accepting of behavior that would have never been tolerated by our parents or grandparents. The level of disrespect that is shown toward any kind of authority nowdays is due to the ACLU and organizations such as these taking the "TEETH" away from teachers, policemen, prosecutors, and the like.

If a Teacher was to spank a child for acting up, blame the teacher.

If a Policeman arrests little "junior", (imagine bobbing head w/ hands on hips), "I know my baby didn't do THAT!"

I have heard parents gripe and complain about this and that and say, "My kid won't go to THIS school or play in THIS league or play THIS sport because THIS ethnic group has taken it over. Not so, enough parents not allowing their kids to go to THIS school, or play in THIS league, or play THIS sport and look what happens. WHO's LEFT!

Quit giving your schools, leagues, sports, or whatever activity away, and become ACTIVE in PTO, Quarterback Clubs, Band Boosters, ect. Don't sit on the sidelines and allow a lack of interest in the activities of your own children cause you to lose them to MTV, XBOX 360, and Wii, not to mention drugs or crime!

We are seeing the beginning of the collapse of OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE.

Let's turn it around, one kid at a time. START WITH YOUR OWN!!! Aren't they worth it?

I think some of this is a lot of disrespect too by todays youth. I HATE when I see kids wearing their pants UNDER their rear ends. They have to tighten their belts really tight to keep their pants where they are. I was out in a store the other day and a boy in front of me had his whole rear sticking out only covered by his shirt. If he had of bent down, i would have seen his underwear...now, who wants to see that? It's not cute, in fashion, or anything else, it's disrespectful to others, especially when your out in public, but they don't care, some rap star started this and the kids think it's cool. If a girl went out like that, she'd probab;y be arrested for indecent exposure. Respect also starts at home. I have heard young kids be so disrespectful to their teachers and parents and grandparents, it's awful what these kids today pick up on.IF they are taught manners and respect at home, we may have a better society today, but in Atmore and surrounding areas, a lot of kids are being raised by their grands....and kids certainly don't have any respect for them, so they run over them and do what they want. sorry to rant!

It seems everyone is so ready to place the blame on police and elected officials when crime rates soar. They want to know why police don't stop people hanging out on the street corners late at night; it's because when they do the public cries "racial profiling", and accuse the police of harassing certain people and even try to sue the police departments. They want to know why the cities don't increase patrol; it's because when they do the public starts complaining that the police are being too aggressive, writing too many tickets, too "gung-ho", etc. They want police protection, but when the police arrest their babies and grandbabies that are committing the crime, suddenly the police are the bad people because, Lord knows, "MY baby don't do no wrong". People want to increase the size of the police departments, but few are willing to pay the increase in taxes to finance it. People are quick to call police when their husband is beating the crap ut of them, but suddenly change their mind when they drag his sorry butt off to jail. It's true that many (most, I'm sure) people arrested are "repeat offenders". Judges are releasing them early, or are reluctant to incarcerate them because of prison overcrowding; are we willing to pay more taxes to build more prisons? Citizens, like you and I, are called to serve on juries and grand juries. But most are reluctant to indict or convict people unless the police have CSI-Miami like overwhelming evidence, which is virtually non-existant here in the real world. On TV, crimes are solved in one hour. Here in the real world, it can take days, weeks, months, or even years (see the Bruce Day story on this site) to solve. Most people are not willing to give the police time to solve cases. I know police officers are human and they screw up at times, and we are more than ready to crucify them when they do, but most are doing the best they can do with what we are willing to give them. The court system has severely tied their hands, they face public scrutiny on EVERYTHING they do, the public generally is reluctant to help them or give them information (which is the real way crimes are solved) because they "don't want to get involved". Even when they defend themselves as in the Danny Williams incident, the media and public are ready to pounce on them. The bottom line is that we, as a society, have created this monster of a crime problem, and it is we who must live with it. It is we who have tied the hands of our law enforcement, and it is we who must deal with the consequences.

These blogs are good and people are starting to think!. Wake up neighbors and listen and see what is going around us. People are hurting People and ths is bad. Humans are not anamils and should be the supreme beings. Live life like decent human beings folks. Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child. Bring up a Child in the admonishment of the Lord and He will not depart from it.

My gosh!! If all you people think this is such a dangerous place to be why don' t you move . I work in Atmore, drive home late at night, and I have never in ten years been afraid. I have stopped at every gas station that is open at that time of night and never felt threatened. Before Winn-Dixie started closing at ten p.m.,I did all my grocery shopping at night to keep from having to come to town before work, and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

Hey Billy Boy! I live in Brewton and I take offense to you calling this town "dangerous". I will be the first to admit that there are crazy people in Brewton but by no means is it a dangerous place to live. I in the Sowell Rd vacinity and I am just as comfortable there as I would be in the richer neighborhoods.

What is happening all over is that WE, as a society have become SCARED and COMPLACENT. We live in a kinder, gentler world of political correctness and "I don't want to get involved!" We take the paddles away from teachers in the schools, WE disagree with prayer in schools, WE take GOD's name out of the "Pledge of Allegiance" and off of OUR money and WE expect OUR offspring to be respectful, law abiding citizens through OUR example. Look at OUR movies, entertainment, and the like, and the next time WE see our kids acting like, dressing like, or listening to something that says it's COOL to live the "THUG LIFE" ...cut it off, throw it out and here's an idea... BE A PARENT!

You can turn alot of this around by changing the attitude of one kid at a time and alot of US need to start in OUR OWN HOUSE!
