Theresa is an acquaintance of mine. She is a young single mother who teaches high school aged Autistic children and is working on continuing her education even though she has completed her bachelor's. She truly enjoys working with these special children no matter the challenge. Last time I spoke with her I just remember her smiling. She and her precious son are in critical condition in separate hospitals fighting for their lives. Please pray for all effected by this tragic accident! May God bless all!

I was completely taken by surprise when I heard about this from a FB friend yesterday. It's been almost a year since I last saw Glen Ashby, but I've known him for close to five years now, and it's terrible knowing that such a thing happened to someone I know well.
He was a great, fun-loving guy who had a great deal of love for everyone I know down there. I wish his family the best and pray for them. ;.;

I live right up the road from that intersection, and didn't hear anything when the accident happen. After I heard about it, probably 30-45 minutes after it happen i started checking websites to see what the real story was and northescambia.com was the first website that i seen anything on, i just wanted to say thanks for staying up to date on the news on the north end of the county. I still haven't seen a more detailed story on any other news site. My prayers go out to the families.

My thoughts and prayers go out to both families involved. Unfortunately this is the 2nd time in less than 1 month that I have observed an accident at this crossing. How many more people are going to be injured before the construction work is complete and signs get put up where they can actually be seen?

By the way: Your reporting is GREAT! The Pensacola News Journal must wait to read your stories online before they write about it! Its old news by the time it appears in their paper or online. Keep up the good work!

I have lived within seeing distance of this intersection virtually my entire life. I cannot tell you how many accidents have happened at this location over the years that have injured or killed motorist, but it is a substantial amount. There have been several within the last year alone. It is certainly hard to stand by and witness such a situation that dramatically alters the lives of families when someone is needlessly injured or killed. Just as i am writing this message a car flew by my window exceeding 90 mph and crossed the same intersection that claimed the life of Mr. Ashby. I would hope another life is not needlessly lost at this intersection when such a simple solution could limit the amount of stop failures. Every accident at this intersection is a mirror image of one another. The motorist headed west on kingsfield fails to stop at the intersection and enters Hwy 97 unaware of the stop sign that is obstructed from clear view. If the county cannot afford lighting at the intersection, simple rumble strips on kingsfield rd warning drivers to stop ahead would save future lives much less those that have already perished. It is time for something to be done. Your loved one may be next!

I drive through this intersection every week day after I drop my child off at Ransom. Major road and utility construction has been going on there since August. Large equipment is frequently left by the workers where visibility is nearly 0 when pulling onto 97 from Kingsfield. It is one of those where you have to keep inching forward until you can finally see in both directions and by that time your hood is in 97. Before anyone blames fingers look at the conditions of an already dangerous intersection. My thoughts and prayers are with both of the families.

There's a simple solution to the problem of faster drivers tailgating you: move into the right hand lane WHERE ALL SLOWER TRAFFIC IS SUPPOSED TO BE BY LAW and let them pass you instead of blocking both lanes so that you get a traffic jam and a lot of ticked off people.

For some reason, people seem to view stop signs as a suggestion rather than a command. I can't tell you how many times I have come to a four way stop, stopped and started to make a left hand turn only to realize just in the nick of time that someone else coming into the intersection has decided not to stop. It gets to where you don't want to move until every other car has gone to make sure you don't get hit. It's ridiculous that this is such a huge problem. I mean, geez, how hard is it to understand the word STOP?
