Vikingwench,
I too served in the US Navy for many years and have seen and am guilty of being a member of the "my marriage license is only valid in the United States" crowd you mention. Like most men and some women who have served in the military, I too visited prostitutes overseas, but only for SEX, my LOVE belonged to one woman, my wife at the time. That relationship worked for over 20 years, actually it was what kept our relationship strong I believe because not long after retirement, I realized the woman I thought I loved was only the ONE because of the freedoms the military provided me. Once I was forced to be with her and only her, our relationship deteriorated and we divorced. Now had I had those same opportunities to visit legal brothels here in the US, we might still be together today. People have wandering eyes, some can control it, and others do not have or want the same restraint. I like many, am one of those people who choose not to conform to the whole monogamous concept that is forced down our throats. Marriage licenses were originally only granted for one year with the option to renew each year, some how we turned it into a "until death do us part" commitment, hence most marriages fail. Let's face it, we are a people who like different choices in everything in our lives including partners.

JustSaying,
I get it too! Unfortunately most people still walk through life wearing rose-colored glasses; drinking the Kool-Aid Uncle Sam has been feeding us about the "war on drugs" at a cost of 30 billions dollars per year since the early 1980's. Prohibition didn't work in the past; it hasn't worked in recent years and will not work in the future. The sooner we accept this fact, the sooner we will be able to dedicate some of those tax payer dollars to education instead of incarceration and actually change things for the better.

I used to own a company a couple of years ago. I hired a man I know sold drugs and I gess I figured I could change his ways by giving him a good paying job. He help do general maintenance and clean up and was paid 10.00 per hr. This didn't change him. He made more money selling drugs than working for me. If I had to hire sales people I would hire drug dealer because there so good at selling. However no matter what amount of money they were raised different and that is some thing very hard to change. To some money is money no matter what the deed.

And might I add, bad behavior is not exclusive to the male of the species. There are plenty of women who fool around on their men, they just usually don't have to pay for it. I don't want to make it seem like I'm man-bashing, because I'm not. There are men and women both who have a strong conscience and sense of personal honor, and then there are men and women who lack both.

I have to drive down that road on the weekends to get to a legal job. I hate it when they step out into the road and try to wave you down. Anyways, arresting them did not one bit of good - I saw at least 3 of them this morning. I guess now they need the money for lawyers fees.

vikingwench...VERY insightful and right on the money!..men and women are responsible for their OWN actions...directing blame to the other spouse (for bad behavior) is a cop-out...time to take ownership for your actions

I'm a woman, and I get why men go to prostitutes. Get off and get gone. You don't have to wine and dine them, you don't have to listen to them gripe about how the sink is leaky and the grass needs to be cut and you left the toilet seat up and hair in the sink when you shaved and when are you going to ask for a raise. You dont' really care what they look like, because you aren't going to wake up next to them or take them to dinner the next night.

There are also plenty of wives who are as loving and affectionate as they can be who are married to men who want variety without emotional involvement. When I was in the Navy I knew plenty of men who were devoted to their wives when they were at home, talked about how much they loved them when we were at sea, called them on their cells as soon as we pulled into port, and then went trotting after whatever they could find. To them, it didn't affect their relationship with their wives, and there was no emotional involvement. It was a purely physical act, not romantic at all. I'm not saying it was RIGHT, but I am saying that it WAS. It happens. So don't be pointing any fingers at wives as if they are to blame for not keeping their husbands satisfied at home. Their wives have nothing to do with it. It is on the man alone. Because there are also lots of men who DON'T "get what they need" at home for whatever reason- medical, physical separation due to employment, whatever, and who DON'T use it as an excuse to use a prostitute.

What it boils down to is that there are some men who enjoy using prostitutes, and they are going to do it whether they are married or not. And there are some men who would never, ever knowingly venture near one. In our society we've romanticized love and sex and made it seem like you're not supposed to have sex without love. Love and sex are two separate things. Even our ancestors knew that- hence, arranged marriages.

You can pray all you want for these people but lets just be real about it they are all grown and know what they are doing so they should have to pay for there crime. i dont feel sorry for them they are on DRUGS if they didnt want to live like that they would change for theirselves. They like it they dont care about noone else so why feel sorry for them. I promise they are not thinking about how many lives are being messed up. And for people worried about how they got to this point in life they chose it. Brownsville is full of crack just like other places we all need to open our eyes to whats going on. I wish I could film this for people so everyone could see how ugly this Drug is and how easy it is to buy all day long all over town. why cant the police do somthing about it? maybe its not bothering them.

to doglover try thinking of them as the pimps for the women. I understand there are a few males who are turning tricks. It would be rough to have the car impounded as is being done in some areas and having to explain where the car is to your wife. May be that's part of the answer to the problem.

Legalize drugs and you elimanate this. SAY WHAT??? I suppose medicaid or your insurance plan would pay for their DRUGS then. No, these people will continue to prostitute and steal to have the money to buy DRUGS unless someone gives it to them.
