Patsy, it has been great have been a part of the family with you and Wild Bill all my life. You both have taught me so much about life and the great living in McDavid. Everyone in McDavid helps everyone else out!. I remember numerous time when My Grandma and other neighborhood Moms and Grandmas got together to quilt, make dinners for sick folks, funeral dinners, match up printed feed sacks to make summer clothes out of, baby sit, sit and talk a spell, Sunday dinners on the church grounds, VBS, the creek, and the list goes on. You are such a patient joyful person and always put up with me pestering you. you can take the girl out of Mcdavid, but you cannot take the McDavid out of the girl has never been so true!

Great going Patsy! What an inspiration you are to me! You are really showing what all us McDavid kids can do when we put our mind to it. Volunteering is such a pay it forward, rewarding job. you are like a sister to me and I hope to be helping you one day soon. It has been a priviledge to have known you all my life and to be a proud MC David Elementary graduate!!!

Contragulations, Patsy! LTR is blessed to have you! muns1970, don’t be too critical…”a couple of years of volunteering” has amounted to 1.5-hour sessions twice a week year-round…not to mention training, record-keeping, and lesson planning! As a coordinator, Mrs. Green will be responsible for recruitment, training and placement of volunteers, recruiting students, and monitoring the program. Would you do that for free???? There are many individuals who leave school unable to read, or read well, for many reasons. It takes a lot of dedication and courage to admit that you have difficulties reading; especially when faced with people as judgemental as some folks can be! Thank goodness Learn to Read is providing volunteers to help!

MUNS: first of all, the article didn’t say the 30-year old man “had” finished school. It just said he was learning to read. We don’t know his circumstances, but at least someone was there to help him and obviously he wanted to help himself as well.

Does it really matter if the position is a paid one or not? I don’t see people knocking down doors ready and willing to help others. Here is someone who is willing to do that and that says something in itself right there.

It just boggles my mind that when we finally have something positive to read about, someone always has something negative to say.

I’m always happy to read positive articles and I hope Mrs. Green is able to help lots of folks.

Y’all don’t get carried away about this now! I’m sure Mrs. Green is all that ,but remember, this is a paid position. She is not doing this for free! DUH! And one more thought, if the thirty year old man finished school, why cain’t he read? This is not saying a lot for the school system…..or maybe it’s saying everything.
