In response to bama54, try dialing *228 (star 2-2-8) on your phone when coverage is available, and then press option 2 (update your roaming capabilities). This should update your phone and allow it to access any new towers that have been put up on Verizon's network. Hope it works for you!

I've been a Verizon customer for 5 years. Coverage has been great, customer service is good, and I haven't had any problems. Alltel customers shouldn't be worrying too much.

Why is this messing up Alltels texting? It ran my bill through the roof and I was only supposed to play $20 for unlimited.

In North Escambia, Verizon customers have roamed on Alltel towers for years. Ther were some differences, however, in the northern and southern part of our areas were Verizon customers would use a Verizon tower instead of Alltel -- even if the tower was distant or weak, and even if the Alltel signal were stronger.

Alltel customers could also roam on Sprint where Verizon customers could not.

Until the merger, Verizon did not have towers in the north part of Escambia County

We've had Verizon for several years now and the service has been quite good. We usually go to the store on Nine Mile Rd. (Hwy. 90?) in a shopping center. We live in Escambia County, AL though, and I wonder if the Atmore store is the only one up this way.

Bama54, I was under the impression that for years Verizon used the Alltel towers for service up here. At least that's what I was told. I don't know where you live, but maybe you need to have the phone checked out if your reception doesn't get any better. I know how frustrating it is to pay for the service and not get decent reception!!

My wife and daughter have the Alltell service and I have the Verizon service, and my phone still does not work at my home. Both wife/daughter Alltel phones work great like always. Hopfully my phone will get the coverage work out.

Hope the service does not change. Have been very satisfied with Alltel service all the years I have had it. I know with Verizon it makes a bigger company, but does it make a better company? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
