My husband went to century and made it all the way to 10th grade without know how to read and probably would of graduated if he had not dropped out. I wen to bratt elementary when I was a kid it was a top rated school. That's why my parents put me in it. Bratt is not the problem it is that century was a failing school. Bratt has always been a top rated school and you can't expect bratt to get the students from century to magically catch up to there level it is going to take some time. Also because of century being closed there is now to many student per class which has also been proven to decrease learning. So don't blame bratt or the teachers blame the people that decided to close down a school, so they could over pack class rooms, and saaaave mooooney!

I would say this is exceptional! The week of FCAT was also the week of flu for Bratt children! My daughter was recovering when she took her exams..WAY TO GO! Mrs. Pomeroy and staff are doing an incredible job! Godd Bless our Educators!

I say "good Job" to the parents of those students who truly made the difference in our scoring ,for taking the time to "insist" their child read , learn math and "honestly" do their school work. Teachers can only be held responsible for some of what our children are taught, the most comes from home. Discipline, manners, respect, responsibility for actions, this all starts with the parents. It is always easy to blame someone else for our short comings, shall we dare take a moment and look at ourself. Everyone has a lot to juggle this day and time but we must put our children's education a priority, they are our future. This world is already in a mess, they are our hope for a better society. Let's turn off the TV, video games, etc. that seem to seperate "the family" and become a family again.

Point well taken. Guess I just never heard it that way before or didn't pay attention. That is definitely crazy. How unfair to the teachers. But then again, just goes to show not all is fair!

Well now FCAT is done and the teachers have a couple of months to teach something to their students other than that da*n test. Its ridiculous the emphasis that is put on that test and the scores. Everyone from the students to the teachers are out of the box about all year long. Next year print us a sample of the test here William and lets see how the adults and other visitors to the sight do on it. would be interesting way for us all to see whats really being taught at school now cause it certainly ain't what it used to be.

Max, while you may disagree with my reporting, comparing third grade this year to third grade last year is exactly how the Florida Department of Education does it, and part of how schools are scored for Adequate Yearly Progress and their letter grades. It's also the way the Escambia County School District compares scores in their media releases, and exactly how pretty much every media organization in the state compares.

But I did not say it was fair.

William, I would like to see more accurate reporting by NorthEscambia. You can not compare how third graders last year performed on the FCAT to how third graders performed this year. That is two totally separate groups of students. The third graders last year are fourth graders this year. SO, if you want to compare to find improvements, you need to compare last years third grade scores to this years fourth grade scores. Make sense?? The way you are reporting is comparing apples to oranges.
