I laugh at these people that complain about police taking cars home and the waste of money argument....if you called 911 and you lived in Jay, would you rather the on-duty officer drive from Navarre to your rescue, or the officer in Jay that had his/her police car at their house?

With all the tax money these days that is totally wasted (Halliburton, Iraq, bail-outs, no-bid contracts, no collective bargaining with drug companies for prescription drugs, etc, etc, etc,) I find it amazing that anyone would complain about a police officer taking the patrol car home.

Get a life people and stand-up for what is really important.

Take a look at an earlier story about "bus hits dump truck", See what the bus driver was charged with, look at the comments, and then tell me what is the difference in this accident? Besides the fact that this one was a LEO.

I think a police cruiser is fine at second job. It is letting the neighborhood thugs know a policeman is near and may keep them from doing wrong. Also, when the police officer takes his cruiser home he has the benefit of getting to an emergency quicker. A Police officer is never truely off duty. They can be called at anytime. And with the economy being down, crime is going up and we need all the help we can get from the officers. And they don't get paid all that much anyway. They get stabbed, shot, puked on by drunks and have to listen to everybodies problems and get crusified like now. I'm sure some of you leaving negative commits wouldn't do their job for what they get paid. For those being so critical, remember your words the next time you're needing help or someone is asking your help. And this was an accident, I'm sure everyone has had an accident. But I think the issue that should be being addressed is there is children in no carseats!!!!! Shouldn't the issue of this guy not having his children in seatbelts be far more important than where a cruiser stays. And the guy didn't have lights to warn other drivers of what he was doing. And those kids probably will still ride around without seatbelts and very few are concerned with their lives, it seems to be all about a cruiser.

It's not a problem for them to drive a cruiser home, BUT to use them to "show their presence" outside of financial instiutions and businesses while being paid good money for second jobs-is wrong! There are several local financial institutions that pay upwards of $20.00 per hour for a deputy to sit in a cruiser (running the air conditioner) as a second job. This I think should not be allowed. Driving it home I think is a reasonable benefit, but to drive it to your second job is wasting our taxpayer dollars.

I dont know how it can be the police officers fault. The truck drivers lucky nobody got killed. Its too bad he didnt get stopped by the police for having no breaklights or blinkers before the accident. I dont know why people who live in rual area think they dont have to wear seatbelts ,have car seats, or pull around trailers without lights. I see it all the time.

Amazed, accoring to the article the cop hit the truck because it was turning across traffic. Pull up the 7th picture in the photo album. Anybody that would of rear-ended that trailer in a car would be dead. The driver of the truck should be accountable for the lights, and the child restraints. Im not saying the cop was right or wrong, but the truck driver was not following the law. None of us are traffic crash experts. If you witnessed the accident hopefully you stopped to help.
