This is the same information I posted Jan 29, 2009

Let this be a lesson to all, protect yourself. If you are followed by a unmarked police car or a car that has flashing lights that is not marked for law enforcement and they are trying to get you to pull over call 911 on your cell phone and explain the situation to dispatch, ask for a marked patrol car to respond. at that point dispatch will confirm or deny if the person in the unmarked car is really law enforcement. Also if you are being pulled over and the area is dark or you are not comfortable stopping there (marked cruiser or unmarked) call 911 and let dispatch know and they will relay to the officer attempting to make the stop that you are not fleeing or evading law enforcement but really looking for a safe place to pull over. also keep your car doors locked and never roll the window down all the way. If you have power windows and the officer tells you to turn off the engine only leave enough room to pass and receive ID’s and documents through the window. remember to keep your doors locked, don’t be afraid to ask for ID weather it is a uniform officer or plain clothes, like Sgt Roy said all deputies in Escambia county carry a commission card. anyone needing more information about personal safety and traffic stops should contact the Escambia County Sheriffs office. The good folks there will be more than happy to assist you.
It is a sad, sad day when we need to establish procedures to protect ourselves from people pretending to be law enforcement. I hope the E.C.S.O. catches this guy soon.
Be safe, Be informed.
