He wants to know whenever you have a non-ruby throat. Mr. Bassett bands hummers as part of the ongoing Humming Bird Study GroupeHBSG efforts to understand hummer migrations . Keep at least one feeder up year round as there are many hummers which don't migrate from the east to south america or decide to come east from the west instead of going straight south. We had one at our feeders that we all called Sitter. He would park himself on the feeder and sit for twenty minutes at the time. The other hummers would buzz him to have their turn to eat, and Sitter would just continue to sit. We figured out he was admiring himself in the window behind the feeder! Hopefully they are on their way to Mexico now, but we look forward to seeing them next year. I can't wait to see if Sitter returns to our feeders. While he was here he fed exlcusively at this feeder and would not let another bird near it. After doing some research, I discovered it was (most likly) a pie-bald ruby throat.
