OK...I've closed the comments on this article. I think we've had enough discussion about a snake, and a few folks stepping over the bounds on rule #1 --- "Be Nice".

I guess since you are writing in all caps that means you are yelling. Why would I give you my full name? So you can “hunt” me down! It has nothing to do with being a coward. It’s just none of your business. We all have a right to our opinion. And since it was your GROWN son that killed the snake, why do you feel the need to fight a battle that doesn’t exist? Nobod is making a personal attack on your family. Your actions and words speak for themselves!

I have noticed that the people who are criticizing Adam for killing this extremely dangerous snake, will only give their first name, or just initials. If you are going to attack someone, atleast let them know who you are. I am not getting in to the religous debate that this has turned into, but I can assure you “ann” that the Dortches are not angry people, Adam has been a friend of mine since grade school. He nor his family, in any way deserves the comments that have been made here. But, if it was your family under attack, you would defend them as well. Or at least I hope you would!

Ann .. you are right, in that there are MANY “rules” in the Bible that I have not obeyed. As far as the dietary rules in the Old Testament go, they were given to, and intended for Israel alone. The purpose for those “rules” were to show Israel, and indeed the Gentiles, that NONE of us could keep them, and that we are utterly lost. Keeping the Law cannot “save” us, it can do nothing but condemn us.

Galatians 3:24 “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”

If you believe what God tells us, that we are truly lost and without able to remedy this condition for ourselves, there is a solution. A free gift from God. All we have to do is believe (have faith) that Jesus (the Christ) died for our sins (paid the price that God demands for sin), that He was buried (He was truly dead), and that He rose from the grave to new life (thus proving that God accepted the payment in full), then you are saved. It is that simple. That is THE Gospel.

Faith + NOTHING

I hope you will take this to heart, though it’s got nothing to do with the debate of killing a dangerous animal, it is the most important thing for any human to consider.

There are GOOD snakes and there are BAD snakes and I know the difference. I do not kill good snakes. If that big honker crossed my path…I would probably not have killed it because I would’ve died of a heart attack first! Had I not parished first…you dang right I would’ve killed it!!!!

AB…you’re not following rule #1 and I quote “(1) Be Nice. No comments that slander another, no racism, no sexism, no personal attacks.” With an emphasis on “BE NICE”

Get over it already! Obviously the snake wasn’t trying to attack anyone. It was killed because of sport. Would it kill someone? Yes, to defend itself or out of fear. Snakes do not hunt humans; they simply have a kill or be killed instinct. Just like all predatory animals. Should we go on a hunting spree to rid our area of all dangerous creatures. Probably not. That would mean most of your pets would be in danger (big dogs). Yes, it is ignorant to kill an animal if it is not trying to harm you. As for the genesis quoter, there are a lot of rules in the old testament that I am sure YOU follow. Especially when you are biting into that big old ham sandwich or chowing down on that rib (read the rules on pork). Yes, God did put us in charge of animals. He also gave us a brain and I am sure He expects us to use it wisely. Kill the snake if it is endangering you. Don’t if it’s not. Simple. Boy, the Dortch’s sure are angry people. Says a lot for their family!

“AB and R” the two of you don’t have enough courage put your names on here but you do have enough courage to call my brother ignorant for killing a deadly snake, it seems that maybe the two of you might be the ignorant ones.
